Would I be better off taking another class, like a monk or something (problem with monk is that I would have to be lawful unless my DM houserules that out, and "trying to start a slave rebellion" doesn't really scream "lawful" to me)? Should I switch to a sorcerer bloodline that gets natural weapons (or get natural weapons some other way), rather than trying to focus on the stat bonuses (from bloodline powers), bonus feats, and spells of the bloodline?įinally, with regards to my attributes, how should I allocate them? Having the two different classes, I'm obviously kind of torn between wanting to buff my melee stats and wanting to preserve my charisma for spellcasting. Even if I somehow got armor, it would interfere with my spellcasting and not even be stackable with mage armor. I don't know much about fighters, but the d20pfsrd page makes them look pretty equipment-centric. So, I'm kind of questioning my group's recommendation that I go as a fighter. He needs to do well enough, without armor and probably without a weapon, to prove his worth to the other characters. ![]() Outside of things like closed arena fights (which was actually our first session), he's not likely to be given a weapon unless it's being delivered blade-first over my throat, unless the party decides to trust me with absolutely no in-character justification whatsoever (if you were your master's favorite slaves, would you hand a weapon to the overtly rebellious guy who's been assigned as your responsibility?). All of the other player characters decided to be loyal to our master (whether this is genuine or simply out of fear is unknown thus far). We're playing a campaign in which we're all slaves, and my character is basically this Spartacus-wannabe who's reasonably intelligent but even more pig-headed and stubborn (and has taken Flaws to that effect). Slight complication, for context: My character has absolutely no material possessions, and is not likely to get any in the near future (this is one reason I chose sorcerer over wizard). I might branch out into blasting spells if I have slots left over after picking out buffs (orc bloodline gets a +1 damage per dice bonus to damage spells), but I'm probably not going to be the group's main blaster. What should I pick? So far I've been trying to focus on spells that buff melee users (magic armor, enlarge person) and feats that increase survivability (such as Toughness, Dodge, Eclectic, Fast Learner), since I seem to be the group's tank. As usual with Pathfinder, I'm rather overwhelmed by the sheer amount of choices available. We leveled up to level 3 at the end of session, and our GM has a policy of allowing players to change ANYTHING on our characters BEFORE the second session (Sunday), so I'm able to carefully pick out my feats, spells, and even major things like my class and race (currently I'm human, so that I can get the extra sorcerer spells). ![]() I've gone with the orc bloodline so that I can get the +6 strength bonus later on (plus it also has some melee-oriented feats), and I plan on going Eldritch Heritage into Abyssal to get an additional strength bonus from it later on, but beyond "MOAR STRENGTH" (and constitution and dex) I'm not sure what I'm meant to be doing to make my character decent. I have absolutely no experience playing anything other than a pure magic user (one of the reasons I wanted to try a melee character that uses sorcerer powers), and have not witnessed anyone else do so successfully (the one melee user in our last group dropped out relatively early), so I'm a bit at a loss of how to make this work. Fortunately, I get to alleviate my insanity a bit by selecting another class as my gestalt class the others have suggested that fighter would be the best option for me because of the extra feats they get (although I'm not sure how useful extra Combat Feats will be in my situation). So we've started off on a new campaign yesterday and I thought it would be a blast to try to play a melee sorcerer.
